Intercessors are needed to come alongside churches worldwide to pray on Sunday, June 22 for refugees and internally displaced peoples, many of whom are Christians living in the 10/40 Window. They have been forced to flee their homelands because of persecution and terror. In China, refugees fleeing from North Korea have been forced into sex and labor trafficking, or sent back to face severe punishment from their own government officials. Elsewhere, thousands of Iraqis, including many Chaldean Christians, have fled the sectarian violence in the war-torn nation. Meanwhile, researchers estimated about 500,000 refugees live in Egypt, mainly from the Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea. “Praying for and supporting these people with no where to call home needs to be part of our Christian response in being the light and salt in our society,” World Evangelical Alliance International Director Geoff Tunnicliffe said. WIN PRAYER ALERT Intercessors are needed to come alongside churches worldwide to pray on Sunday, June 22 for refugees and internally displaced peoples, many of whom are Christians in the 10/40 Window. They have been forced to flee their homelands because of persecution and terror. World Refugee Sunday was initiated by the Refugee Highway Partnership (RHP), a global network of refugee ministries. According to Jubilee Campaign USA, more than 33 million people worldwide have had to leave behind everything they have and every person they know to find safety within their own countries or across borders. “World Refugee Sunday is an incredible opportunity … to show support and solidarity with millions of displaced women, men and children,” Heidi Moll Schoedel, Executive Director of Exodus World Service and Chairperson of the RHP, told Christian Today. “We are seeking to rouse the conscience of the Church through this powerful event.” In China, refugees fleeing from North Korea have been forced into sex and labor trafficking, or sent back to face severe punishment from their own government officials. Elsewhere, thousands of Iraqis, including many Chaldean Christians, have fled the sectarian violence in the war-torn nation, the Associated Press reported. Meanwhile, researchers estimated about 500,000 refugees live in Egypt, mainly from the Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea, IRINnews.org reported. “In light of the hundreds of thousands of displaced peoples in just Myanmar and China alone over the past few months, it seems very appropriate to again connect … (for) this important annual prayer initiative for the millions of refugees around the world,” World Evangelical Alliance International Director Geoff Tunnicliffe, who serves as an advisor to the RHP, told Christian Today. “Praying for and supporting these people with no where to call home needs to be part of our Christian response in being the light and salt in our society.” Pray for:
The refugees to come to know Christ and His peace.
The growth of faith for ex-Muslims and that they will not live in fear of relatives, but with courage.
Just decisions in juridical and asylum procedures.
Strength and perseverance for the ones in contact with refugees.
More Christians to contact and welcome asylum seekers with the love of Christ.
Integration of refugees into host countries and new homes.
