I am burning.  I’m undone.  There is a tremble in my spirit that won’t stop.  Revival in Detroit is on God’s schedule. 

I want to thank everybody that I had the amazing opportunity to spend some time with.  Thank you from the deepest part of my heart.  You touched me powerfully.  I can’t wait to come back.

I preached 10 times in 5 days at IHOP-E and Christ Community Church, and my own life is morphing before my eyes.  God is turning up the refining fire in my own inner man.

Saturday night I was privileged to see God burn in people dramatically.  We didn’t leave until 12:15am as I had the opportunity to pray, prophesy and impart fire into every person in the church that evening!  I actually was praying for one person and suddenly was overcome by God and went out under the power myself!  As I was praying for her! capture-00003-9-9-2008

I was blessed powerfully when someone asked me what I needed to get to Thailand (I’m ministering to 10/40 Window leaders at a summit in October).  I said I was around $1600 short.  She wrote me a check for $1600 right there!  Wow!  God moved in many very amazing ways!

Through three sessions on Saturday I taught on Four Fires.  (all of the sermons will be available to listen to on the website soon)

There is an offensive, uncomfortable, piercing, shaking, healing, burning, loving move of God that is coming to the cities of the earth- and we as the church must be in position and ready for a messy movement that blows up the man made box of religion.  Religion is the attempt to use God to get what we want.  Now, there is an awakening in this nation that is resulting in a cry for God to finally get what he wants.  God wants to come as he is and do what he wants.

When this happens, the atmosphere in the church on a Sunday morning will be shocking, problematic, uncomfortable and life changing.

Check out this email that I received while in Detroit.  It was an important part of what happened there.  People were burning as I read it three times over the weekend.  If you haven’t read the dream that the email references, read it here:capture-00004-9-9-2008

Hi John,
Here is a text I sent Julia Palermo a few weeks ago when I heard you were going to be in the Detroit area.
I had the chance to go to Detroit when I was 12-13. I saw a few things and have had a few dreams concerning Detroit.
Fire, Glory and Revival will be breaking out in Detroit very soon. It will be a city with a great breaker anointing on it.
I see Detroit jumping up and down and the whole city is shaking the nation. There is a convention center downtown with whales and fish painted on it that shall be filled with lovers of Jesus. (WhoA! I am getting blasted right now as it just clicked while writing this that you had a dream with  an airplane going under water with sealife outside the window.)
John, there is a large convention center or building downtown Detroit with whales, dolphins, and sea creatures painted on the outside of it. I cant remember what the building was as it was 13 years ago, but the Lord told me to "take special notice of that building for it was going to come up again." and it just happened now.
you can mark my words, FORD Stadium shall be filled with people hungry for the gospel and the cross of Jesus Christ and the power of his blood shall be preached with great power and authority from that stadium.
John, you were born to be in Detroit for such a time as this. I agree with Jesus for a great gift of his presence and protection to be upon you and your family as you are ministering there.the breaker anointing shall go forth from you.
as cities have redemptive gifts so the Lord will raise up delivers from Detroit in Jesus name, Amen let it be.

Look at the building!  If you remember my dream, this is very much like what I saw!!

 

Here’s a snip of my notes from Saturday (which is from my book, 20 Elements of Revival):

As we stand in corporate fire, we must be determined that it not diminish, but rather that it increases in intensity!  Seven times hotter!

  • Extreme Spirit filled atmosphere (vs. 2-3)- Acts 2:2-3 (NKJV) 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
    • This is not a seeker sensitive movement, but rather a believer driven ministry of extreme Holy Spirit activity in the HOUSE OF PRAYER.  The unusual manifestations of the presence of God will be expected when he comes as he is and does what he wants!  To tone down the atmosphere is to, in effect, ask the Holy Spirit to settle down and give us control of the environment.
    • The biblical norm for believers is  to experience the weighty presence of  the Holy Spirit  regularly.  The normal experience for a Sunday service, for example, is for us to walk in the door and immediately become influenced by an atmosphere of fire.  Brokenness, tears, drunkenness in the Holy Spirit, prophetic unction, repentance and other manifestations should be the expected reality day after day.  We have become satisfied with teaching services, song services, social gatherings and other activities without the baptism of fire that should be burning through them.
  • I made a serious commitment to God and to the RHOP team.  I would never allow our atmosphere in our prayer events or services to be toned down ‘out of respect’ of those less hungry.  If a visitor comes through the door, the fire must burn hotter not  cooler!   Many capture-00002-9-9-2008 Churches purposely have  a  less  ‘offensive’ service as their main service and then have a ‘believer’s service’  at  another  time of  the week.   How  can  this be?   The purpose of the church IS NOT to draw visitors!  It’s to be a place of fire and prayer, teaching and challenge.  This element is non-negotiable.  A seeker-sensitive program may have its place in a Church- but not here!  Not at this critical stage of the development of a city-wide dwelling place of the Most Holy One!  We must remember the purpose of a Church- it is to be a house of prayer for all nations.  That is the reason for its existence!  If we press in and pray and worship and cry out night and day for weeks, months and years to come, we will experience a perpetual stirring of an atmosphere of fire.  Prayer is a primary ministry, not something  that simply paves  the way for another ‘more important’ activity.  This desperate hunger for God’s presence will cause us to dwell with Him for hours on end day after day.  We won’t be so worried about a ‘messy’ Church service.  We’ll err on the side of freedom as people discover how to live a Holy Spirit driven life.
    • Peter was called ‘the rock’… the church… and right after this Peter unwittingly renounced the cross!  Get behind me Satan!  We must ensure that the cross is the center of the church!  Death daily!
    • Matthew 16:18-25 (NKJV) 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." 20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ. 21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. 22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, "Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!" 23 But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men." 24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
  • Note- you are not mindful of the things of God but the things of men!  Ahhhhh!!!  To be mindful of man ahead of God is offensive!  We must capture-00001-9-9-2008 repent!  The Church is God’s house not man’s house!  Extreme Spirit filled atmosphere!

Be in prayer for Amy and me as we are considering our next steps.  We are praying and throwing out some simple, elementary feelers regarding what’s next for both of our ministries.  We are praying about serving at IHOP and making this our home base.  Also in the mix is a possible venture to the Detroit area.  Amy has also sent out a resume to Minnesota. 

Our heart is to see the nations infused with the life of Jesus and the fire of the Holy Spirit.  We are also praying about watching a traveling ministry team developed.  I’ve mentioned this before, and I’m still in a place of prayer.  Several people have been coming to me saying that they would love to hit the road with my ministry as fire-breathing, city-taking revivalists.  So, I’m praying about how this may form over the coming years.
