We know that God moves when people move. We draw near to him and he draws near to us. We seek, we find. Etcetera.
The problem is that God will hold back his glory for quite some time for before the revival comes. Why? Many reasons, I’m sure, but one of them has to be a very important test. Are we seeking God for our own benefit or for his? If we contend and press and wait, as they did in Acts chapter 2, and as we avail ourselves to God’s grand scheme for the nations, he will arrive in power.
I often say that revival is a guarantee. We can have it if we want it. The problem? We can’t have it tomorrow, or probably even next week. It’s when we finally cancel everything in our lives and gather together and unify and pray with fervency that we’ll begin the pursuit of an outpouring.
The church is flying in many different directions, doing some good things and often with a very good heart. However, the necessary power and life isn’t there to get the job done. We need to stop the activity, learn to breathe in the wind of the Holy Spirit and wait.
When the majority of Christians seem to be discouraged, struggling, depressed, dry, tired and without vision or passion we need to sound an alarm.
In a legitimate revival atmosphere, people work their 8 hour day and then drive right to the meeting for another 6 hours or more in the presence of God. The continual experience is one of smiles, laughter, passion, testimonies, faith and fire. That’s not to say that all problems disappear… but the handling of those problems is night and day different.
A very common problem in the church is that it’s easy to assume that such revival atmospheres are special and rare. If that’s the assumption, we won’t contend because we don’t know if it’s ‘our time’ to experience God. Maybe we’ll spend months pressing when God has no plans at all to visit us.
No way! Revival is the biblical norm for believers! Where God is there is freedom and abundant life and joy and supernatural encounter after encounter. God isn’t resisting us! His passion is to dwell with us, to reveal himself us, to infuse us with life. He wants that!
So, if we understand that revival is guaranteed, and that we can truly live our lives on fire, full of passion and walking in the invisible realm, we will gather together and contend night and day until it happens.
It’s all about revival! It’s all about God coming as he is and doing what he wants. When that happens, nothing else will matter. Teaching, evangelism, small groups, mission trips and every other ministry will operate under a cloud of perpetual glory.
Now, there is a rapidly increasing hunger in the church, and we should be expecting God to start moving in very unique and unusual ways. Lakeland is but a beginning. People are gathering in expectancy in churches night and day in many places around the world. Let’s watch and pray and wait and contend in unity for God’s massive dreams to come to pass!
