One more quote that is CRITICAL for us to look at. Biblically, we don’t see local churches (though, I think the local church can do much good). We see the city church. My newly published book 20 Elements of Revival addresses this issue.
The city church must find itself! Competition between pastors must cease and churches must gain their identity not from their individual distinction on their own block but from their vision for their city.
The city churches of our nation are not only failing, they are usually non-existant.
Check out the quote below:
QUOTE: “I would say the church can take the blame for a lot of the problems in the southeast community. The Bible tells us as a church if we seek God’s face, He would change the community. Until the church does what it’s supposed to do, the community won’t change.”—Rev. Richard Patrick, speaking in an interview about efforts to clean up his church’s troubled southeast community in Newport News, Va. Patrick has organized prayer marches and a gun buyback program. He’s also planning to hold a rally where young people can burn hate-filled CDs and violent video games. [dailypress.com, 6/9/08]
