We’re suffering greatly from a lack of revelation in this nation. Churches, ministries, houses of prayer and other Christian focuses are regularly launched and developed with great vigor, yet without unique and important prophetic insight. This lack results in being forced to default to developing ministries based entirely on the revelation of another.
Let me state this clearly– to launch any ministry by imitating what has worked for another without specific God-given revelation for your specific situation is to fall head-first into a trap.
I’ve heard many stories of people who had a desire to plant a certain model of ministry in their city without understanding the critical need for personal revelation.
Such stories most usually result in great struggle, frustration and eventual failure. To assume that we can simply start a church or ministry on principles and a model alone is to have a great failure of understanding.
Instead, glean principles, insights and other ideas from the model that God has laid on your heart, and use them as tools. The model is to be a tool rather than a complete, final structural blueprint.
If one were to build a skyscraper in Denver, it would be wise to follow tried and true wisdom of old. Permits would have be secured, materials bought and blueprints designed. However, to build a duplicate of Chicago’s Sears Tower in downtown Denver would be a tragic failure of creative revelation!
To imitate the designs of another is foolishness (and laziness), but to glean from the insights of others is wisdom.
So, are you called to plant? What tools will you use that others have provided through revelation of their own? Then, how will you use those tools to develop a ministry based on God’s personal revelation to you?
Simply, what works in one region under the leadership of one person most probably won’t work the same in another region under the leadership of another person.
What are the non-negotiable principles and what parts of the model are to be flexible? Every ministry should be unique and distincitive while embracing biblical principles that cannot be violated.
What are your thoughts?
