You can listen to a podcast on this topic if you scroll down. I got cut off twice, so start at the third one and work yourself back up.
I was in the prep room at IHOP today. This is an extremely popular place in the side rooms of the prayer room where several people pray in tongues for an hour. It’s an atmosphere of nearly perfect prayer– the Holy Spirit praying the perfect heart of God through everybody at the same time for a long period of time. Amazing!
During my time in there today, I felt God drill me with a question. I felt he desired to school us in impartation. As we are infused by God, it’s important to transfer that to others. That’s where teaching, intercession, etc. comes into play.
The question God asked was, “When imparting to others, what is the preferred method– revelation or explanation?”
Very interesting. Of course, in the Western world we are very data driven. We want to understand something logically first and then allow it to affect us at deeper levels as we gain greater insight over time. Outlines, flow charts, graphs, three points and a poem. We’re very intellectually oriented, and while our intellect certainly plays a role in both learning and teaching, we will become incredibly limited if we are explanation driven instead of revelation driven.
Here’s the key– God dwells within us, and much of what is imparted will be so overpowering that it transcends logical understanding. If the truth is devoid of Holy Spirit revelation, it will be well beyond our human capacity to comprehend. However, when the Holy Spirit delivers via prophetic revelation, a miracle occurs– the indescribable is imparted, received and can then be transferred to others. It’s prophetic teaching that’s received into our spirits and then imparted into the spirits of others.
If we choose to limit ourselves to teaching from the human intellect, we won’t even come close to revealing the mysteries of God.
1 John 2:27 (NKJV)
But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
The teacher abides within us!
Check out this passage… it sums this idea up very well:
1 Corinthians 2:9-14 (NIV)
9 However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”– 10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
So, if we are to press toward supernatural revival in this nation we simply must understand that a simple, logical approach won’t suffice… we need to dive into the invisible realm. If we live in the Spirit, we must walk in the Spirit! Spiritual realities must be spiritually discerned.
Let’s embrace the impartation of the knowledge of God by revelation first. Certainly, explanation will play a part, but even that must be transmitted in a supernatural way.
Regarding my recent focus on church and house of prayer planting, we really have no choice but to receive our blueprint for the plant via revelation. Can we receive an explanation of certain aspects of planting? Of course, but that explanation will be far from enough when it comes to being equipped to plant. We must receive Holy Spirit delivered instruction that rocks our world. Then, and only then, plant.
