(I’m live online now if you could please stop in and discuss this with me… www.r180.com/video)
As internship directors and missionaries we are finding ourselves both blessed and in a place of great need. I just received an email from Amy, and my heart is hurting. I’ll share that email with you in a moment.
A major reason for our move to KC, from my perspective, was to allow Amy and the kids to be refreshed. In many ways, we are all invigorated and refreshed, but financially we are bearing an undue burden.
Those of you who know us understand that we don’t open our hearts like this very often, and we’re not complaining by any means. But, we unashamedly need to let our friends know how important their partnership is as we have taken this huge leap of faith (that has already resulted in amazing miracles, including incredible financial miracles) here in Kansas City.
We are actively working 50-60 hours a week, not including my graphic design work. This leaves no extra time to pursue other income opportunities or to work even a part time job.
OUR PRIMARY method of paying our regular bills is through partners who give on a regular basis. We need to increase our support base by a huge margin literally within the next two weeks if we are to be able to pay our mortgage and other bills.
We are still paying two mortgage payments as our house has not sold in Colorado Springs (and it’s currently vacant- no renters). There is a possibility that we will lose up to $30,000 when it does sell due to the dive in the housing market.
Here’s the email Amy sent me. I decided to send it simply to help bring understanding to the very real nature of our situation and the need we have of partners so we can continue as missionaries in the prayer movement. Note that this only includes a portion of our monthly expenses, most of which is covered through donations to our ministry:
Just wanted to let you know that we can’t spend ANYTHING for a while. I just balanced the checkbook. After tithe, we only have enough right now to pay the kid’s medical insurance and that is it. Here’s what we have to come up with by the end of the month
$132 Aetna insurance (for you and me)
$1537 Wells Fargo Mortgage (Colorado Springs house)
$173 electric bill
$70 car insurance (this is already past due)
$208 gas energy bill
$100 medical payment (this is already past due)
$50 water bill
$250 Sprint bill
$125 cable/internet bil
This is $2645 needed within the next week or two and doesn’t include money for groceries, gas or spending money
We have some money coming in ($400+) and a couple of hundred from another source, but that still leaves a shortfall of $2000, and the $3000 on the windows (from the house in Colorado Springs) comes due in six weeks
So no more coffee shop, no more anything for quite a while. We need to take drastic measures. We must do something.
So, you can see that times are very hard. I just heard of a key leader at IHOP that actually had to leave because she couldn’t raise enough support. This should not be! The enemy is hitting with violence against those who are devoted to intercession. Amy and I are praying literally 25+ hours a week in the prayer room and are training others to take their place on the wall and pray, and we’re being hit pretty good right now.
We are praying for several people who can commit to giving $25, $50, $100, $250 and $500 a month. Plus, any special gifts right now would be so precious to us.
If every one of our friends and family would pray about serving the Lord in this way, the rewards would be felt in so many powerful ways. We felt full disclosure regarding our financial situation would help you understand the very real nature of what we’re going through.
Note these verses that make it clear that extravagant giving of the church will make it possible for others to work zealously in their callings:
1 Chronicles 9:33 (NKJV)
These are the singers, heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, who lodged in the chambers, and were free from other duties; for they were employed in that work day and night.
2 Chronicles 31:4 (NKJV)
Moreover he commanded the people who dwelt in Jerusalem to contribute support for the priests and the Levites, that they might devote themselves to the Law of the Lord.
2 Kings 22:9 (NKJV)
So Shaphan the scribe went to the king, bringing the king word, saying, “Your servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of those who do the work, who oversee the house of the Lord.”
Nehemiah 11:22-23 (NKJV)
22 Also the overseer of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha, of the sons of Asaph, the singers in charge of the service of the house of God. 23 For it was the king’s command concerning them that a certain portion should be for the singers, a quota day by day.
Nehemiah 12:47 (NKJV)
In the days of Zerubbabel and in the days of Nehemiah all Israel gave the portions for the singers and the gatekeepers, a portion for each day. They also consecrated holy things for the Levites, and the Levites consecrated them for the children of Aaron.
1 Chronicles 16:37 (NKJV)
So he left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of the covenant of the Lord to minister before the ark regularly, as every day’s work required;
